Happy Wednesday readers. I hope everyone is feeling better than me…I came down with something, some time Sunday evening. The rest of the weekend was great though.
Besides going to my first Squallis play, How to Fest, and see some local music, I spent an evening with my old friend Breck. It seems like each time I run into him, he has something new to introduce me to. This time was no different.
One thing you should know about Breck and I is that we share an affinity for bizarre electronic music. Recently, he’s been on another vinyl kick, and introduced me to Warning. Warning is a German electronic duo that started in the early 80’s. I think the thing that really draws me to these guys is the full circle that their aesthetics possesses. They created characters to play roles within the music…the costumes, the album art, and the music come together to display the personalities of what some reviewers call these ‘Space War Lords’. A little bit early electronic, a little bit metal ( supposedly they were supported by the Austrian Death Metal Band Pungent Stench for some of their studio work.)
To further that love of electronic music, Breck showed me another recent purchased he made. If you’ve been wanting a inexpensive alternative to synthesizers, you’ll find it in littleBits. littleBits are tiny electronic components you can snap together, to do various things. One such set deals with sound manipulation, like a tiny synthesizer…or at least its differing dials. Last thing Breck offered up is related to both the Simpsons and Prince Rama. Remember Homer’s car? How about Never Forever? Both reference a film called The Apple. Breck has been hounding me quite some time to watch this movie, and I finally sat down to watch it. The Apple is a retro-futuristic rock opera of sorts that has themes of anti-conformity and ties in the Adam and Eve story. I think I’ll just let the trailer below speak for it. Enjoy.
