Hello strangers…

I’m back from my unintentional hiatus. After a spell of hard drive crashes and technical errors, I’m here….finally. And I bring you today guests I’ve been trying to wrangle for quite some time. Over the Halloween weekend I hung out with Katy Hartman and Anna Lee Roeder of Lady Pyramid. We messed around on keyboards & Omnichords, as well as discussed unique trash finds, the communal aspects of music making, and their upcoming release, Sweet Seashell Dreams.

Lady Pyramid is a foursome of creative women who make music that consist of an upbeat, positive tone with storybook imagery. Sonically, they’re one part bubbly calm psyche, another part warm blanket of fuzzy distortion. Lady P is involved in both the music community and the community in general through their work with Squallis Puppeteers, Amped Louisville, and recently the Outskirts Music Festival. Katy and Anna explain their Outskirts experiences and the ‘Rock Shops’ they taught.

The release party for Lady Pyramid’s debut will be November 21st at Haymarket Whiskey Bar. They will be backed by Black Birds of Paradise, The Get Down, and the visual magic of Spettra. Show starts at 9.

Besides their efforts within Lady Pyramid, both Anna and Katy have hands in other music projects as well as visual art.

If you ignore the sound of my furnace periodically kicking on and off, it’s a pretty good episode. Click the player below to hear it or subscribe through the iTunes Store.

December 25th, 2013…the Holiday Break Special!

santa-claus-conquers-the-martians-16

It’s prime holiday time, listeners! Regardless of what holiday traditions you adhere to, I wish you well.

I decided I’d take a little break, but worry not, I still have something for you this week. I thought I’d stray from the format and bring you some songs that I either discovered or have stuck with me this year. Some of these songs just came out, I’ve just heard, or I can’t stop hearing…listening..you get the picture. Obviously, there are still songs I can think of that should have made the cut but you’ll hear them from me eventually, I’m sure. I understand the mix is kind of odd, but I see it more of a showcase; so forgive the rough transitions!

Monday is only a couple of days away

Monday slowly approaches, listeners. And with it comes the Blind Date sponsored event Glances: an evening of short films and performances. I thought it might be nice to give you a couple of teasers before the show, to get you excited and all that.

Here’s a video clip of Lady Pyramid performing ‘Oranges’

And here is the trailer for the Astral Projects production ‘Never Forever’, featuring Prince Rama.

If this doesn’t incite you, I’m not sure what will. Learn more here.

Just one more piece of FYI worthy material, next Wednesday’s episode will feature an interview I did with local musician Clint Ackerman. A man after my own heart, due mostly to his love of Bowie…haha, I kid, there’s more to it than that. Make sure to keep your ears peeled or subscribe to the podcast, so you never miss a beat.

October 16th, 2013

'Ancestor' by Katy Traughber.

‘Ancestor’ by Katy Traughber.

Guess what day it is, listeners….Blind Date Day! Or, as most of you know it, Wednesday!

Once again, the Traughbers welcome me into their home. This time around, I sit with Katy Traughber. Katy is currently enrolled in the BFA Program at IUS over in New Albany. She is really drawn to objects with a past or hold a record of time, though the materials she works with and the forms they take are dependent on inspiration.  Much of her muse consist of coming from a family who created out of necessity, parenting, and open communications with her children and husband. As you’ll hear in the interview she’s tried photography, music, sculpting, installation, and painting. Currently, you can find a small collection of Katy’s work at Dragon King’s Daughter’s New Albany location. Be sure to check it out; it runs through the rest of October.

You can keep up with Katy by visiting katytraughber.blogspot.com. You can hear the interview right below.

Enjoy!

Oh, by the way, Blind Date is sponsoring its first ever event! It will be a showcase of art with a focus on music and film. The event is at the Clifton Center’s wonderful Eifler Theatre Monday, November 11th. Doors at 7, and show will start soon after. Just five dollars to spend an evening full of creativity.

Live performances by Lady Pyramid and Douglas Lucas. Both accompanied by visuals. And a viewing of some short films and music videos.
