Readers. Listeners. Bloggers. How are you? The slow countdown to Blind Date’s birthday continues. An extra episode while you wait….

Today’s study in creativity is with Nick Hill. I’ve been sitting on this episode for awhile, and I hope you find it worth the wait. Nick is probably best known for his music project Phourist, though he also dabbles in visual art. Most of the tracks that make up the project are piano or  guitar (or combination of the two) driven with added flourishes and accents. These are usually comprised of found sound based textures, synth layers, or the efforts of his backing band, The Photons.

As far as tempo, there are songs of the more ambient, ‘empty theater echo’ variety as well as more upbeat and fast paced work. Either way, Nick has his own interesting character to what he does.

Listen in below to him chat about his creative process, ideas, and how he has had a love of ambient music since a young age, playing with the ‘sound wall’ at department stores.

To learn more about Nick Hill and his music visit his band site here, or his Facebook page. Peruse his music while you wait for his next release, which he is currently working on. Above is the video for his track ‘The Wave And The Powers That Be’.

If you’d like to meet him yourself, you can find him at OPEN this coming Saturday ( May 31st). He’ll be playing along with Tall Squares and Buffalo. Presented by Socius Opus. Roxell Karr will be providing projections. Doors at 7:30. $ 10 cover.

Best.
